Is Bill Allen a Person When He’s Asleep?

By Fr. Dennis | March 29, 2005

Via this piece on Michelle Malkin’s site, we find reference to this, where bioethicist Bill Allen asserts that “I think having awareness is an essential criterion for personhood. Even minimal awareness would support some criterion of personhood, but I don’t think complete absence of awareness does.”

By this reasoning, I could assert that Bill Allen is only a person when he’s awake. If he sleeps too long, it’s ok to starve him.
