Sherwood Hall
By Fr. Dennis | July 14, 2003
I just learned something horrifying about the as yet unrenovated accomodations that await me at St. Meinrad’s Sherwood Hall dormitory.
It’s not that I will have to be celibate and chaste. I’ve known that for a long time. And it’s not that I will have to submit obediently to the authority of my lawful superiors. I can do that. I was raised by my mother and I know how to submit pretty well.
It’s not even that I won’t have Air Conditioning. It’s not comfortable, but I’ve been without AC before and I can handle it just fine.
I just found out that Sherwood Hall does not have Ethernet. Seminarians in Sherwood use a 33.6kbps dialup connection to access the Internet and the school’s network resources.
DIALUP! I haven’t used dialup for my primary Internet access since 1996 when I first got ISDN for residential use. It’s not even 56K dialup access. They didn’t want to upgrade the internal modems since they were in the process of renovating the buildings and eventually everyone would have Ethernet.
I guess Jesus wasn’t kidding when he said all that stuff about taking up your cross daily.
Maybe I’ll get some wireless equipment and work up something on my own. Hmm.

No ethernet is quite a cross.
