Be Careful How You Phrase Things
By Fr. Dennis | June 25, 2004
My uncle asked me to talk about a typical day at IPF, and I intend to do so very soon, but we’ve been very busy with some term papers here at IPF. I did, however, have some quick advice to anyone who takes a priestly celibacy workshop: Be careful how you describe it to others.
You can imagine that if it is to address the real needs of real men who are seeking to answer God’s call in the 21st century, a workshop on priestly celibacy will need to cover some topics that you might not want to discuss at the family dinner table. The goal of the workshop is to help us grow in holiness and virtue, and to help us avoid sin, and in order to do that we have to address certain topics.
The other day I was telling a friend what we were covering in the class this week and, without really thinking very carefully, I said:
“Today we are learning about masturbation and tomorrow we are going to look at pornography.”
Needless to say, it was embarrassing.
