National Catholic Seminarian Conference in More Detail

By Fr. Dennis | April 25, 2005

The website for the Indianapolis Archdiocesan newspaper, The Criterion, has the text of the extended articles about the Conference. Instead of covering the whole conference, they cover specifically the talks given by conference speakers and the reactions they received:

Christopher West on “Healthy Celibacy”
Fr. Tom Forrest on “Evangelization”

I try not to be into self-promotion, but I’m quoted in the Tom Forrest article. It’s not exactly what I said. The reporter was taking notes, so I can see how she might have missed it. What I actually said was that the speakers were important, but “the most important thing is for us to pray together, get to know one another, find out about how things are in other seminaries, and basically network.” Since “network” was the last thing I said, it made it into her notes.

    Dennis,

Regrettably, I think you got cut in the editing room by someone trying to squeeze the article in to a limited amount of space. ALWAYS ask if you can see the quote before it is printed. Many times they will do just that!!!!

I really want to Thank you for your repeated comments on Prayer! Prayer is important for everything. Sometimes in high stress events I (personally) have to stop and recallibrate (myself) with a prayer.

Many times at lunch I will stop at church for a 5 minute prayer to re-focus myself for the day or day’s event.

One thing I am finding as I get older (52), for some reason it is harder to focus during prayer. I have been working on this, but it is a little alarming to lose focus during a prayer.

In traveling, I will often stop for a driving break at a church or its chapel for a prayer. one of my favorite places to stop (traveling) is the new redesigned St Ann-Bartlett (Fr Bruce did a GREAT job there) TN and St Henry’s in Nashville TN. Both have chapels open all day. Last month, I stopped at the (new to me) St Mary’s Savannah for a prayer, while working at the College (that I work for) Savannah center. Regrettably, I missed Fr Tom (he was at St Joe after they moved it to Neely Road location), but I will catch him next time.
