I Hate Hate Crimes
By Fr. Dennis | April 26, 2005
This NY Post story, which I found via Michelle Malkin, is really ugly. If you look at the “trackbacks” for Malkin’s piece, you’ll see everyone is focusing on the fact that the victims were white. That may be a valid interpretation, but I can’t help but notice also that all the victims were Catholic, or at least attended a Catholic school.
I guess the fact that the alleged perpetrators were shouting racial epithets rather than religious ones is a clue, but if the victims had not been from a Catholic school, would they have been attacked? Maybe not. I think it’s a factor, though. I get the sense that it’s still ok in America to hate Catholics in lots of ways.
