Tonight’s Law & Order SVU
By Fr. Dennis | November 5, 2005
It just started. We just went to commercial. So far, we have a woman on a ledge, about to jump. She’s clearly 6 or 7 months pregnant. She’s considering suicide. She says she was raped. Olivia, a detective, is talking her off the ledge. The woman says her name is April. She says her baby will be named Sarah. She’s crying. “What if I can’t love my baby?” she asks. Olivia answers, “You decided to keep your baby. You’ve given her a beautiful name. You already love her.” The woman says, “I can’t do it alone.” Olivia says, “You won’t. I’ll help. We’ll figure out together.” She pulls her down off the ledge.
Is the show going to be pro-life? They admit that she had a choice, so not as pro-life as I would want. But still. Very interesting. I’ll let you know what I think when it’s over. We’re just back from commercial.

Barring a miracle, I doubt there is ever going to be anything on “Law and Order SVU” or the media in general that is pro-life. I have been a pro-life activist since Oct. 1994 and most of the “entertainment” industry is pro-abortion. I don’t know if you will be able to view this or not but PBS will air a show on Tues Nov 8 around 9 PM CST (check your local listings) called “The Last Abortion Clinic”, which gets its title from the one remaining abortuary in Jackson, MS. If you are ever interested in great reference material to confront those who claim they are pro-”choice”, check out http://www.priestsforlife.org. We recently had Father Peter West from the PFL group at our church for a Labor Day Retreat and I highly recommend them. God bless you!

There’s always a choice. Even if abortion were illegal, there’d still be a choice. That’s what gets to me about all of this “women’s right to choose” stuff. God gave us the right to choose: free will. So I would have been disappointed if the show had not presented it as being a choice. ‘Cause isn’t it great when a person chooses good/life/God?
