Recommended Reading

By Fr. Dennis | March 8, 2006

Today I recommend Maureen Martin’s satire about Catholics who say that receiving ashes on Ash Wednesday is their favorite “sacrament. I also recommend a piece by Peggy Noonan about the dignity of women, airport security, and common manners.

noonan’s article is bothersome - there surely is some way to resolve this and still maintain security.
i don’t believe this is a case of “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander” - and i’ve heard and read to many descriptions of the female security officers who perform these searches that suggest they may really be enjoying their importuning too much.
it is apples and oranges when talking about these kinds of searches on men and women.
i hope her column gets some additional dialogue going about this issue.

When you say that the Noonan article is bothersome, do you mean that it was a bad article and that you wish it had not been inflicted on you? Or did you mean that the things she said bothered you? If you mean that it bothered you, I have to agree.
