The Next Two Weeks

By Fr. Dennis | March 31, 2006

Everyone at my level in the seminary and above has to take a retreat this next week. We can pick any retreat house we want, but the retreat must be directed, which is to say that we must have a spiritual director.

My friend Brian from Tulsa and I will both be making our retreats at Casa Maria, a retreat house in Birmingham, AL, run by the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word. Sunday night I’ll go to mass at OLS in Homewood, which was my parish when I lived there, and will probably go to dinner with some of the people from the music group. Afterwards I’ll go to the retreat house and begin my retreat the next day.

For reading, I’m taking GK Chesterton’s Saint Thomas Aquinas: The Dumb Ox (for fun) and George Eliot’s Middlemarch (required reading for our class on the sacrament of marriage). I’m cheating a bit. I have them both on audio. I downloaded them from Audible and saved them on my Palm PDA.

The EWTN studio is just a few blocks away, so I might make a visit. I’m also planning on visiting the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, AL. But I haven’t decided for sure yet.

Then after that, I’ll be at St. Therese Church in Memphis Holy Week. I can’t wait to sing the Exultet at Easter Vigil.

By the way, those of you who are praying for catechumens and others entering the Church, note that Dawn Eden is becoming a Catholic this Easter Vigil.
