Catholic Church Learns Marketing

By Fr. Dennis | February 25, 2008

This very interesting development from my friend Carole’s blog:

Fascinating development originating in Phoenix — an organization called Catholics Come Home. In addition to a fantastic website, they are airing three television commercials between now and Easter: Epic, which is a story about the positive contribution the Church has been making to society for two thousand years; Movie, which depicts coming to the end of your life and looking back on it in the light of eternity; and Testimonials, which is what it says. Each commercial lasts for two minutes. It’s well worth the time to take a look. This project may be taken to a wider audience depending on how it is received in Phoenix. And of course, this kind of project is expensive, so…make a little donation if you can.

I suppose, the bigger challenge will come if anybody actually takes the Church up on the invitation–what to do with them if they actually show up! Hopefully there is as much thought and effort and resource going into thinking that part through!

They have at least 18 testimonial videos at the CatholicsComeHome.org website. And the first of the three commercials, Epic, is available on YouTube, so share it with your friends.

Ok, maybe I’m a sap but I found that very inspiring. It’s about time we catch up to those LDS ads. :D

I love how it expressed the real universality of the Church, and was very Christ-centered.

I’m in total agreement with you. I always liked those LDS ads, while at the same time resenting that the Church, with the fullness of Christianity at her disposal, ran no ads at all.

gotta get a little more caught-up in the use of technology, don’t we?

    Dennis,
start working on some ’spanish’ spots for use in memphis when you get there

It’s amazing, you know - come to think about it - ads for the Catholic Church might seem a bit odd - only because it’s like having an ad for water. Or air. That’s a testament in a way, to our catholicity.

Agreed. Thanks for posting this, Dennis. I found it inspirational as well. Did a double-take at the end with “if you’ve been away for awhile…” I had to pinch myself and make sure it wasn Easter or Christmas Mass! :)
