There is No Joy in Memphis. The Mighty Tigers Have Struck Out.

By Fr. Dennis | April 8, 2008

Memphis lost in the NCAA Tournament Finals last night against Kansas. It was a really good match up, but in the end, some stupid fouls and the Tigers’ famous inability to make free throws, especially under pressure, proved to be just the sort of vulnerability that Kansas could take advantage of. Fox Sports columnist Jeff Goodman, who really has seemed to hate Memphis all year, and has been complaining about the Tigers’ poor free throw percentage all year, is gloating today with an I-told-you-so headline that reads “Not surprisingly, Tigers lose title at the line.”

We lost 75-68 in overtime. We were 63-63 at the end of regulation, and would have won if it had not been for missed free throws at the end of the game. My alma mater finished the season with more wins than any other team in NCAA history, with a record of 38-2.

P.S. — Yeah, I know baseball and basketball are not the same sport. I just like the Casey at the Bat reference.

and the DETROIT tigers have opened the season with a 6 loss start.

some tigers go to the finals,
some can’t get out of the cage.

Believe it or not I was in Overland Park, KS all week last week. I was really talking up the Tigers on Monday. Guess which bird I had to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Tuesday….
