I Have My First Assignment
By Fr. Dennis | May 30, 2008
I have been informed by my bishop of my first assignment as parochial vicar, but I’m not allowed to say at this point which parish it is. I can say that it surprised me because this parish does not have a Spanish-language mass. But the pastor and I met yesterday, and he said that he will be flexible about releasing me once in a while to other parishes to cover when they need help with a Spanish-language mass or wedding or baptism.
The announcement of my assignment should be public next week by 3:00 PM CDT or so because it is supposed to be in the Diocesan newspaper next week, and that usually shows up on the Diocese of Memphis web page on Wednesday afternoons.
I have a message left for me at the rectory where I am staying for the time being that the bishop wants to meet with me at 2:00 PM today. Not sure what that’s about, but I don’t think I’m being fired.

when you have time, read Fr. Kyle Schnippel’s blog post for TH of this week (5/29) about priests living a life of martyrdom.
Have you come across theological teaching like is men tions in his blog?

and I wish you well with your meeting with the Bishop.

Congratulations and good luck!
I guess until it is officially released it is a guess as to where you will be assigned.
My best guess is St Brigid Fr Bruce would be great to work with at St Brigid!!!!!! My second guess would be with Fr Jim at Holy Rosary!
I wish it was St Mary’s in Jackson! Fr. Tom would be a great pastorial mentor for your future assignments. Plus there are Spanish masses at St Mary’s!
There is a need in every parish for a bilingual priest. Plus your work with the Irish Travelers makes you essential
Anyway, I am a better man in faith because of you. Many thanks for that! Where ever you go, you will influence many in their search for faith.
btw, am I close with my guess?
