Hard Gospel to Preach

Interesting coincidence. Today, September 11, the Gospel of Luke tells us:
Love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you,
pray for those who mistreat you. (Luke 6:27-28)
When the Church was revising the Lectionary reading cycle 40 years ago, I’m sure they had no idea that these readings might fall on the anniversary of something so dramatic and terrible.
Hard to preach. Even tougher to live out.
