Memphis Musician Wins At Catholic Music Awards
By Fr. Dennis | October 26, 2008
Though she is currently living in Michigan, Noelle Garcia calls Memphis her home. She grew up at one of our parishes doing praise and worship holy hours with a youth music ensemble she organized called “Savio” (named after St. Dominic Savio), and volunteering as a cantor at the campus ministry at the local Catholic college.
And now she is the winner of two Unity Awards from the United Catholic Music and Video Association, which held their annual awards ceremony in New Orleans last night. She won “Pop / Contemporary Song of the Year” for her song “Away from Myself” (click on this link to listen to an MP3 of the song). Also, she won “Pop / Contemporary Album of the Year” for the album “Meet Me Where I Am,” which contains the award winning single!
I got to sing with her once. She was so very easy to work with, and knew exactly what kind of sound I was going for and how to approach music for liturgy. And she’s a genuinely nice person. Everyone in Memphis is happy for her.
